The Opportunity VHA is seeking a forward-thinking Vice President, Finance & Chief Financial Officer to join its executive leadership team at an important point in the organization’s evolution. Reporting to the President & CEO, the CFO will be much more than VHA’s senior financial executive. They will be a trusted advisor, enterprise leader and strategic thought partner who will help shape organizational strategy and position VHA for continued impact, innovation and sustainable growth. Alongside responsibility for VHA’s financial strategy, stewardship and governance, the CFO will help the organization navigate emerging funding models, digital transformation and AI-enabled opportunities, partnerships, investment stewardship and strategic growth. They will position Finance as an active partner in transformation, bringing forward ideas, challenging assumptions, evaluating opportunities and helping translate promising concepts into financially sustainable strategies. The CFO will work closely with the President & CEO, Board of Directors and executive leadership team while building the capabilities of a strong Finance function and strengthening its role as a strategic business partner across VHA. Externally, they will build credibility with funders, government, healthcare partners and sector colleagues, bringing financial insight and evidence to conversations about the future of home and community care. This is an opportunity to combine strong financial stewardship with enterprise leadership, helping a respected healthcare organization navigate transformation while contributing to the evolution of care at home in Ontario. The Leader The ideal candidate is a respected, collaborative and forward-thinking finance executive who brings outstanding financial acumen together with strategic curiosity, sound judgment and the leadership presence to influence at the executive and Board level. You are someone who looks beyond the numbers. You see Finance as an enabler of strategy, innovation and organizational performance. You are intellectually curious and learning-agile, comfortable navigating complexity and ambiguity, and able to identify opportunities while maintaining the discipline and stewardship expected of a CFO. You build trust easily but are equally comfortable challenging assumptions and introducing new perspectives. As a people leader, you are collaborative, values-driven and committed to developing strong teams. You can operate effectively both inside and outside the organization, building productive relationships with senior leaders, Boards, funders, government and healthcare partners. You will bring a recognized professional accounting designation, ideally a Canadian CPA, and significant progressive senior financial leadership experience within a complex, multi-stakeholder organization. Experience in healthcare, home and community care, or another publicly funded or regulated environment is highly desirable. Candidates from other sectors who bring exceptional strategic capability, learning agility and experience navigating complex stakeholder and funding environments are also encouraged to consider this opportunity. Experience with investment management and oversight, including working with investment advisors and supporting Board-level investment governance, will be important. Experience with mergers and acquisitions, property portfolio oversight, and subsidiary oversight and governance would be considered strong assets. Knowledge of unionized environments, leases and contractual matters within the not-for-profit sector would also be valuable. Experience contributing to organizational transformation, strategic investments, partnerships, new business models or growth opportunities will be particularly relevant, including experience helping lead complex change initiatives through stakeholder engagement, operational redesign, implementation and sustainment. A forward-looking perspective on technology, data and emerging opportunities such as AI will also be important. You will be comfortable leveraging data to inform strategic decision-making, improve financial performance and optimize resources, and will bring experience evaluating the financial and strategic implications of technology investments and other significant organizational opportunities.
