Demonstrates a caring approach which reflects and incorporates expertise. Human Resources Exemption: No Experience * Exp in the last 5 years in psychiatric assessment & intervention required * 2 yrs exp in Acute Psych or Comm. Mental Health nursing or a combo of the two. * Exp in the last 5 yrs with acute and chronic psychiatric disorders Education * Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing (BPN) Other Education and Training * Nursing diploma is acceptable * Bachelor of Nursing is acceptable * Basic CPR, ASSIST preferred * Psychiatric Nursing diploma is acceptable Competencies * Advanced - Interpersonal skills * Advanced - Organizational skills * Advanced - Assessment skills * Advanced - Planning skills Knowledge and Abilities * Knowledge in mental health/mental illness impact on client, family and community * Knowledge in client psychosocial living needs and interventions * Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team * Ability to build and maintain effective relationships/partnerships * Knowledge in mental health assessment systems * Knowledge in mental health and mental illness across life cycle * Knowledge in applicable health promotion and health prevention initiatives * Ability to develop, evaluate and modify programming provided to clients * Ability to adapt to changing conditions * Knowledge of psychopathology and the family life cycle and systems theory. * Knowledge in mental health/illness in various settings (acute and community) * Knowledge of local human service organizations, resources & referral procedures * Knowledge of human growth, development and human behavior. Exigences

Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Psychiatric Nursing or a nursing diploma and be registered or eligible with the CRNS or CRPNS. At least two years of experience in acute psychiatric or community mental health nursing is required.
