About the role

Department: Laboratory

The Department of Laboratory Services at North Bay Regional Health Centre provides laboratory services to inpatients and registered outpatients. The Phlebotomist supports timely and accurate diagnostic testing through patient identification, blood collection, specimen labelling, handling, and related pre-analytical duties, while following hospital policies, laboratory procedures, privacy requirements, and quality and safety standards.

QUALIFICATIONS

Certification/Experience/Knowledge:

  • Must be a graduate of a Medical Laboratory Technician Program or equivalent
  • Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) or Medical Laboratory Professionals' Association of Ontario (MLPAO) Certification required with current registration
  • Recent relevant phlebotomy experience required
  • Knowledge of Meditech and Mobilab preferred
  • Experience in sample preparation an asset

Skills/Abilities:

  • Strong organizational skills required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with all members of the health team required
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a team member and adjust to varying work assignments as needed, or independently, as required
  • Must support and contribute to a culture of safety and prevention of adverse health events in this organization
  • Good attendance and work record required
  • Bilingualism (Advanced level English/French) is required. All unilingual candidates are encouraged to apply and may be considered if the identified French requirement has been met or there are no successful bilingual candidates. A formal French test will be conducted to evaluate the proficiency level.
