About the role

Reports to: Site Therapy Supervisor (STS)

Purpose of Position:

The Physiotherapist (PT)is responsible for the formal and/or informal assessment, treatment, and learner support of preschool and school-aged children within the Early Childhood Services (ECS) school program and/or in service of the Community and In-Home program. The PT is responsible for the planning and coaching of physiotherapy programming that meets the unique needs of the children and families with whom they work.

Overview of Responsibilities:

  • Development and coaching of physiotherapy treatment programming – considering a classroom, home, and/or community setting (where applicable)
  • Coach and consult with families and staff (i.e., Teachers, support personnel, administrative team members) to provide appropriate strategies and recommendations for a child’s physiotherapy programming – including appropriate strategies for gross motor development, physical literacy, health/wellness, and anything else related to the scope of physiotherapy
  • Develop, monitor, consult, and update Individual Program Plan (IPP)/Service Provider Program Plan (SPPP)/Individualized Service Plan (ISP) goals, ensuring they are carried out appropriately and effectively by the members of a child’s team
  • Conduct screenings and/or assessments (formal and/or informal) of preschool and school-aged children – ensuring assessment data is provided for program-specific needs
  • Collaborate with families, interdisciplinary team members, teachers and aides to target goals in a variety of settings, including participation in meetings with the team and/or families
  • Provide transition and/or summary reports, and maintain documentation to meet both the standards of the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta and Pacekids’ standards
  • Ensure meeting of all program-specific deadlines for documentation, hour tracking, and billing, as applicable
  • Provide education and training to Pacekids’ staff
  • Commit to the values outlined by Pacekids – working to create and maintain a positive and respectful workplace culture

Position Requirements:

  • Completion of a Master’s Degree in Physiotherapy, or equivalent

  • Registered member, in good standing, with the College of Physiotherapists of Alberta (CPTA)

  • Adhere to the code of ethics of the physiotherapy profession and maintaining standards of practice

  • Current professional liability insurance, to be updated annually

  • Current driver’s license. Must have access to a reliable vehicle

  • Current clearance from a Criminal Record check, including a Vulnerable Sector check, and Child Intervention Check, current within the last 6 months

  • Proficiency in the English language, both written and verbal

  • Experience working with preschool and school-aged children

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to work effectively with clients, families and staff

  • Flexibility is essential given the variety of children’s abilities, needs and conditions
