About the role

Company Description Providence operates six schools across Calgary for children ages 3–6 who may not be meeting typical developmental milestones, providing a joyful, supportive, respectful, and safe environment. Programs follow a learning-through-play philosophy, enabling each child to explore, learn, and grow in a fun and secure setting. Certified teachers work alongside therapists and therapeutic and educational assistants to deliver individualized education and therapy directly in the classroom. Providence also supports children in neighborhood preschools and child care programs, and delivers a Supported Childcare Program that coaches child care providers in creating inclusive environments. Team members join a multidisciplinary organization focused on helping all children learn with confidence and success. Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Teaching Assistant role based in Calgary, AB. The Teaching Assistant supports certified teachers and therapists in implementing individualized education and therapy plans for children ages 3–6 in the classroom. Daily responsibilities include assisting with learning-through-play activities, reinforcing educational and social goals, and helping to maintain a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. The role involves preparing classroom materials, supporting small-group and one-on-one instruction, observing and documenting student progress, and collaborating with the educational and therapeutic team. The Teaching Assistant also helps with transitions, personal care as needed, and effective communication with colleagues to ensure consistent support for each child. Qualifications

Candidates should possess skills in Assistant Teaching and Education to effectively support classroom instruction and individualized learning plans. Candidates should possess strong Communication skills to collaborate with teachers, therapists, families, and children in a clear, respectful manner. Candidates should possess skills in Working With Children, including patience, empathy, and the ability to foster a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. Candidates should possess basic Mathematics skills to support early numeracy and related classroom activities. Relevant qualifications such as a diploma or coursework in Early Childhood Education, Special Education, Child Development, or a related field are beneficial. Experience in preschool, kindergarten, or special needs settings, and familiarity with learning-through-play or inclusive education practices are assets. Ability to follow individualized program plans, adapt to diverse needs, and work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team is important. Current clear criminal record and child intervention checks, and any required local certifications (e.g., first aid/CPR) are preferred.
