Position Summary Join Quinte Health's Surgical Unit as a dedicated nurse, where you'll engage with a diverse range of patients, spanning medical, surgical, and palliative care needs. With a typical nurse-to-patient ratio of 5:1, you'll have the opportunity to provide personalized care in a supportive environment. Our unit boasts 28 beds, including two specialized palliative care suites, ensuring comprehensive end-of-life support. Opportunities for career growth abound within our unit, with pathways to various roles including preceptor roles and opportunities to expand your knowledge of wound care. Success on Quinte 4 requires strong time management skills, the ability to prioritize effectively, and a willingness to seek guidance from PCL staff when needed. Required Current Certificate of Registration in good standing, or eligible for registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario. Current CPR, BLS, or BCLS certificate. Minimum of 6 months working experience on a medical or surgical inpatient unit or final student placement on an inpatient surgical unit within the last year. Capable of coping with a physically demanding workload. (Physical Demands Analysis (PDA) available to review). Must have a satisfactory Criminal Record / Vulnerable Sector Check. Duties Utilizes the nursing process in assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating care to assigned patients with predictable outcomes, utilizing specialized knowledge, skills and judgment. Responsible, and accountable, for the coordination and delivery of care within the framework of collaborative practice, consulting and collaborating with Registered Nurses, and other members of the health care team, as required. Demonstrates excellence in communication, patient-centered care, and teamwork/collaboration. Documents proficiently according to standards and Quinte Health policies. Participates in quality assurance and continuing education programs to ensure a high level of patient care and efficiencies in the delivery of care. Other duties as assigned. Physical Demands Analysis Strength Required Occasionally – lifting and carrying average weight 20 pounds and max 50, pushing/pulling average 10-15 pounds and max 30 pounds, patient assist approx. 100 pounds. Mobility Required Constantly – standing. Required Frequently – walking, bending/stooping. Required Occasionally – sitting, twisting/turning, bending, crouching/squatting, kneeling, and Required Rarely – balancing, climbing. Dexterity Required Frequently – forward shoulder movements, gripping/grasping, pinching, neck, elbow, shoulder, wrist and back normal range of motion. Required Occasionally – fine finger movements, shoulder movements (up/down). Required Rarely – foot action.
